We mainly rescue pigeons in the southwest counties of Minnesota but are very much willing to drive or meet halfway to pick up pigeons found elsewhere in the state.

If you are looking to surrender a pet pigeon, please email us. We take in surrenders based off of our capacity and also dependent on the situation.

How do I know a pigeon needs help?

A few signs include inability to fly, are clearly injured, is a baby out of the nest, can't walk properly, or are puffed up and slow to react.

What does a lost pigeon look like?

Lost pigeons are often the outcome of racing, not a pet that got away. Racing is a sport where pigeons are bred and trained to quickly fly back home in big flocks hundreds of miles away. Causing them to become tired, overworked and often grounded. Racing pigeons are always banded with numbered plastic/metal rings on their legs and are usually uniquely colored. All white, patterned, black or brown and different beak or body shapes are common.

How do I catch the pigeon?

You can easily use a towel, blanket or any type of light fabric material to throw over them. Walk towards them slowly and once in your reach, throw the fabric over them as quickly as you can.  Grab them gently while securing the wings to their body. Don't fret to hold them tightly, the more secure the better.

What should I put them in for transport?

A good cardboard box with some holes does the trick just fine or small pet kennels work too. It is important to not handle the pigeon as much as possible after catching. The less stress on them, the easier the process for them is. Keep them in containment inside until they can be brought to us.
